It’s official: Ohio Redistricting Commission locks in new congressional map

Well, folks, it’s official… the Ohio Redistricting Commission voted 7-0 to lock in Ohio’s new congressional map. Here it is, via @redistrictnet:

This looks like a pretty good deal for Democrats, relative to what they’ve seen in other mid-decade redistricting exercises in red states.

And if the current generic ballot numbers hold up, it doesn’t look like it will wind up putting Democrats down two seats.

RealClearPolitics has Democrats up by about 3 points in that right now. In 2022, Republicans finished up by about the same– but lost the House.

Obviously, a lot depends on other states. But as of right now, this is a problem for Republicans that redistricting just may not be capable of overcoming:

These are numbers from the latest Economist/YouGov polling. Note Ohio and where white voters sit, especially.

Buckle up, Buttercup.
